What is the Best Car Wash and Wax Combos?

Last updated on February 26th, 2024

2012 Ford F-150 Race Red, Deep, Lustrous, & Shiny from using the best car wash and wax combination - Mothers California Gold Carnauba Wash & Wax.

Before starting my car detailing business, I used a product that is hands down the best car wash and wax combo on the market.

Of course, I will explain some factors for forming my opinion in the following post.

I like using several detailing products in the Mothers line: Mothers Instant Detailer for touching up between car washes. I still use their Mag & Aluminum Polish, as seen from the shiny mirror-like finish of the chrome parts in the picture above.

We keep a bottle of the Instant Detailer from Mothers and several microfiber towels in our vehicles. We use it when birds and bugs make messes on our cars. After following larger vehicles on the expressway, I used the instant detailer when their dirt and road grime splashed from the cars onto mine. It would be best to wipe away the messes before they damage the paint.

If you have not had the opportunity to read some of my previous posts, bugs, and bird droppings will eat at the surface finish or the topcoat of paint, known as the clear coat.

About Mothers California Gold Carnauba Wash & Wax.

Mothers started business as a Mag & aluminum polish manufacturer and has gone through many changes, offering far more vehicle cleaning and polishing products.

My favorite in the Mothers line of products is Mothers California Gold Carnauba Wash & Wax. The organization appreciates the satisfaction consumers feel when people notice the overall appearance of their vehicles. One of their mottos is, “They design their products to keep those heads turning.”

I used their aluminum & mag polish years ago for the diamond plating on the backs of my tow trucks. The polish produced a mirror-like shiny finish that always got the attention of the competition and the customers.

Where is Carnauba Derived from to Create Wax?

What makes Mothers California Gold Carnauba Wash & Wax one of the best car wash and wax combinations is the carnauba wax. To read more about carnauba wax and how it is made from the fronds of a carnauba palm tree, also known as the “tree of life,” please click on the following link: carnauba wax. The tree secretes a coat of carnauba wax on the upper and lower leaf surfaces. The carnauba wax protects the fronds and retains moisture during Northern Brazil’s dry season.

The leaves are cut from the tree from September to March and left in the sun to dry. The powdery wax is removed by beating the leaves, then melting, strengthening, and cooling. The wax consists primarily of esters of long-chain alcohols and acids. Carnauba has a melting point of about 85 °C or 185 °F.

According to the manufacturer, Mothers, “Carnauba is available in various grades of purity and clarity: #1 yellow is the finest, followed by #2 yellow, #3 yellow, and various other commercial grades. Mother products contain #1 yellow exclusively.”

What Makes Mothers California Gold Carnauba Wash & Wax the Best?

One thing that makes Mothers California Gold Carnauba Wash & Wax the best, in my opinion, is the ease of use. When I owned my 2012 Race Red Ford F-150, I could get by with waxing it once annually. I would wax it by hand with quality California Gold Pure Brazilian Carnauba Wax. Then, I would use Mothers California Gold Carnauba Wash & Wax on my weekly or biweekly maintenance washes.

Now, with the new and improved Mothers California Gold Carnauba Wash & Wax formula, it is easier to use since you can use the product in a snow foam cannon. The maintenance washes allow it to hold the deep, lustrous shine for at least a year, depending on environmental conditions. As I said, the California Gold is easy to use when washing your car, and if done correctly, it restores the shine as if you had just finished washing & waxing the vehicle. The water beads and sheets on the car nicely after each maintenance wash.

Before starting my detail business, I primarily used Mothers California Gold Carnauba Wash & Wax for all my high-touch hand car wash needs. I use the product after washing my vehicles with a pressure washer or a high-touch wash. The results are phenomenal for the small amount of money you spend on a 64 oz bottle.

How I use Mothers California Gold Carnauba Wash & Wax.

As mentioned, I primarily hand-washed my vehicles using the old Mothers California Gold Carnauba Wash & Wax formulation. Now I use an Amazon Basics Snow Foam Lance with 1/4 Quick Connector for Pressure Washer Gun, 33.8 ounces (1 liter), and my Ryobi Electric 2,000 PSI 1.2 GPM pressure washer (no longer available). Ryobi has replaced my version of the pressure washer with a newer, updated model.

Here are some videos from Josh V and his YouTube site @IMJoshV. In his first video, he reviews a comparable Ryobi pressure washer, which is perfect for automobile detailing.

I use a similar setup, providing an ideal system for performing touchless car washes. The second video is a product review from Josh explaining how to set up and use an Amazon Basics Foam Cannon.

Conclusion

Again, I think Mothers California Gold Carnauba Wash & Wax is one of the marketplace’s best car wash and wax combos. Mothers soaps are easier to use now that you can use them in a snow foam cannon with a pressure wash system. If you decide to try it out, you will not be disappointed.

  1. Of course such a fine waxing product would be from a company called “Mothers!” Being a mom, myself, I think the detail (sorry for the pun) you give in using the wax is great. I learned a lot, but for a Honda Civic I’m concerned about his long it takes to complete the waxing process on my vehicle? If I don’t have the time to do this myself, I will definitely ask my detailer to use Mothers Gold Carnauba Wash and Wax on my Honda. Thank you for a very comprehensive description of this product!

    • Thank you for being a return guest to my website, Sue. I appreciate your patronage.

Did you have an opportunity to watch the video from Josh V and the video from Pan, the Organizer?

Yes, Mothers releases several fantastic products, but as I mentioned four I use most in my business are favorites of mine.

The four again were the Mothers Gold Carnauba Wash and Wax, the Mothers California Gold Pure Brazilian Carnauba Wax, the Mothers Mag & Aluminum Polish, and the Mothers Instant Detailer. Each of the products is used differently from one another. First, I would wash the vehicle with the wash and wax combination (about 25 minutes) and then use it for ensuing maintenance washes. Secondly, I would apply Mothers California Gold Brazilian carnauba wax, which could take approximately an hour to apply and remove. Lastly, I would polish the aluminum wheels with Mothers Mag & Aluminum Polish.

The only product left to mention is Mothers Instant Detailer, and I use it in situations where birds might make a mess on the car or if I am performing a quick spot cleanup. I would not use the quick detailer to wipe down an entire vehicle. As I mentioned in the post, it is only for cleaning small areas that need addressing urgently to prevent damage to the paint on your Honda.

Thank you again. Please keep coming back and telling all of your friends about the helpful information you are finding on my website.

I hope you have a wonderful New Year!

  2. Matt is a master of perfection! He detailed, color corrected, polished and brought my 2020 Aviator back to a condition that is excellent. It now looks better than when I bought it. I’ve never appreciated the shimmer of the paint until yesterday. Every inch of the vehicle was shining. It’s obvious that Matt takes pride in his work, he is always well prepared with excellent products and a determination to bring an excellent result to his customers. His work ethic is second to none. You won’t be disappointed, in fact, you’ll want to schedule him for all your detailing work. My question is, how do I keep it looking this nice?!

    • Thank you so much for your thoughtful words of praise, Joe. I appreciate your kindness and your support for my detailing business.

To answer your question about keeping it looking nice all the time, you will need to keep doing what you have been doing. Keep up with your maintenance washes.

I applied the Chemical Guys Hydroslick Intense Gloss Sio2 Ceramic Coating Hyperwax on your Aviator, making those future maintenance washes easier. You can read more about it by following the preceding link. Also, that product will repel much of the dirt and grime moving forward and for the next 12 months or more based on driving habits.

Spot clean after each use. When you see, it gets dirty from bird droppings or other contaminants, tend to them immediately or contact me.

What has worked well for me is carrying a bottle of my favorite instant detailer and some microfiber towels for spot cleaning. I carry one for drying too, which has come in handy for going to the high-pressure touchless self-service car washes.

I post helpful information regularly on my website. You are always welcome to post a question in the comments section. I will respond promptly.

Next to my truck, as you will see in the next post, is your Aviator, my second-most favorite vehicle on the road.

I remember seeing the TV commercial with Matthew McConaughey when the 2020 Lincoln Aviator first came out.
He drives to a secluded nearby frozen wilderness lake. He parks the car on the frozen bank and gets out. He walks out onto the frozen lake and drills a fishing hole in the ice with an auger. He returns to sit in the back of the warm Aviator and says, “Beats jigging in a shanty.” After that, a fish hits his line as he sits watching with binoculars. He marks his spot on a map and slowly walks out to retrieve his fish while whistling the Andy Griffith Mayberry tune. But I digress.
